Oberstdorf is a popular holiday resort in the Allgäu region. Surrounded by an impressive natural backdrop, Oberstdorf offers relaxation at the highest level and, with the new Oberstdorf thermal spa, creates a location where the four elemental forces of fire, water, air and earth can be perceived in a very special manner.
This concept is fully realised in the new thermal spa designed by the renowned architects Auer & Weber. With over 3,000 m² of sauna, spa and wellness area as well as bathing and thermal spa facilities covering 2,000 m², visitors can look forward to a unique combination of natural power and modern comfort.
The thermal spa also breaks new ground in terms of energy. Almost the entire roof surface was fitted with a roof-integrated photovoltaic system to create a homogeneous, modern surface – a prime example of sustainable construction in an Alpine environment and, at the same time, an ideal application for the Solrif PV in-roof system from Schweizer. deSonna GmbH, a long-standing partner of Schweizer, supplied both the modules and assembly material and also took on key tasks in technical consulting and logistics. FHS Fiedler GmbH was responsible for the professional implementation.
This Solrif complete roof solution blends in perfectly with the architecture and ensures a consistent appearance. Only in areas that are shaded or architecturally complex and would have required special sizes were dummy modules without a power generating function used. They are seamlessly integrated in visual terms and also part of the Solrif system. A total of 654 modules from Sonnenstromfabrik CS Wismar GmbH with an overall output of around 170 kWp were installed.
With its combination of aesthetics, functionality and sustainability, the Oberstdorf thermal spa will become not only a centre for health and relaxation, but also a reference point for modern solar architecture in the Alpine region.
