Major PV Project in Domdidier Relies on Schweizer’s MSP Mounting System
The new solar power plant on the ALDI SUISSE distribution centre in Domdidier demonstrates the enormous potential of large rooftop areas in Switzerland. For Ernst Schweizer AG, the project marks a significant milestone, showcasing both the performance of the MSP PV mounting system and the value of close partnership-based collaboration. Thorough planning, efficient logistics, an installation-friendly system and close cooperation among all project partners throughout every phase of the project laid the foundation for cost-effective and on-schedule implementation.
With approximately 59,000 square metres of roof area, more than 21,700 solar modules and an installed capacity of 10 megawatt-peak (MWp), the new solar power plant at the ALDI SUISSE distribution centre in Domdidier sets new standards for the utilisation of large industrial and logistics rooftops. ALDI uses the generated solar electricity for its own distribution centre while feeding surplus energy into the regional power grid.
For Schweizer, the project holds special significance. It marks the first time that the MSP PV mounting system has been deployed on such a scale in Switzerland. Schweizer supplied the optimally engineered mounting solution and contributed its expertise from the early planning stages onward. Helion Energy AG was responsible for the technical implementation and coordinated all on-site construction activities.
“Large-scale projects require not only high-performance products, but above all strong partnerships,” says Ilfer Bajramoski, Head of Solar Systems Sales Switzerland at Schweizer. “With its rapid installation and high level of flexibility, MSP offers decisive advantages in terms of efficiency and cost-effectiveness, particularly on large rooftop projects. Domdidier is a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved through the successful interaction of planning, system design and execution.”
Efficient Installation on a Large Scale
As photovoltaic systems increase in size, installation speed, logistics and precise planning become increasingly important. The modular MSP system is specifically designed for fast installation while offering the flexibility required to accommodate different roof configurations and technical requirements.
The volume of materials involved further highlights the project’s impressive scale. Schweizer supplied a total of 270 Euro pallets, including more than 30,000 base profiles, over 30,000 supports, around 40,000 connecting rails and nearly 100,000 screws.
“Domdidier demonstrates the enormous potential of the tens of thousands of currently unused rooftops on commercial, industrial and logistics buildings across Switzerland,” says Samuel Beer, COO of Helion Energy AG. “Reliable partners are essential for projects of this magnitude. Schweizer’s installation-friendly mounting structure made an important contribution to delivering the project on time and in a cost-effective manner.”
A Reference Project for Large Rooftops
The Domdidier project is an outstanding example of how even photovoltaic installations of this scale can be delivered economically through efficient system solutions, meticulous planning and close cooperation. It also demonstrates how unused rooftop areas can be transformed into powerful contributors to the energy transition.
For Schweizer, Domdidier further confirms the strategic importance of large rooftop solar installations within its solar systems business. The roof surfaces of industrial, commercial and logistics buildings represent enormous and still largely untapped potential. With MSP, Schweizer offers a flat-roof mounting system specifically engineered to meet the demands of large-scale projects while delivering key advantages in installation efficiency and economic performance.
